But, on the other hand, it's a long way to the desert - I'd say that since you only have 2 weeks invested in the character, you could delete it and restart it as a N/Mo, which may be more flexible until you can get to change your secondary (and you get to use a 'hard' rez like Rez or Rebirth instead of a once only Rez Signet, and self heals such as Healing Breeze. Also useful for trying a minion master build using Heal Area.

You do not get healing breeze as /Mo only as Mo/ you will get it for free once you change your secondary or if you are /Mo wen you change back. Then you get healing breeze.
To the OP if you plan to play in Factions AB you could make up an N/R touchie.

Either you got it wrong or I'm just imagining it. You need Ascension (completed the Augury Rock mission in Prophecies), Weh No Su (Closer to the Stars, attained by completing the Nahpui Quarter mission in Factions) and finally, well, getting Sunspear Sanctuary location in NF, however it IS suspected that you need to do the Sunspear outpost quests. THEN you can change profession.
SPOILER: Each char needs to complete their own ascension in their homeland continent (for example, a Ranger created in pre will need to kill the Doppelganger, and so on...)

just stick to blood magic, as the best skills in the begining are from this line and use some kind of defensive or other stance(you will be forced to use wilderness survival stances as expertise is ranger primary) from the ranger line, serpent's quickness for faster recharge or dryder's defense as a nice defensive stance, mainly against elemental damage. both can be aquired rather early I think

You're fine... unless you just want to start over. If you decide to keep going and change your secondary in the Crystal Desert after you ascend, it will take anywhere from three weeks to three months by playing the game normally, depending on how quickly you move through the missions.
However, if you just don't like the Ranger secondary or would rather not spend the next months with it, it will be much faster to start over now and choose another secondary than get to the desert and ascend without being run there, which really isn't a good idea for your first playthrough.
It's worth noting that all of the skills unlocked with the secondary through quests in Prohecies will be available to heroes across all characters in the future. Ranger is a great all-around secondary for any profession with a lot of flexibility, and having a pet early on for a new player can be very helpful. There are also Ranger Spirits which offer good synergy with Necro skills, such as Toxicity and Winter (for Spinal Shivers).
If you do start over, Monk is best for an aspiring Minion Master and for unlocking the early Monk skills for heroes; while a Mesmer secondary is a great choice for many reasons, not the least of which is unlocking skills for the Gwen hero. Over the years I've asked many players what their favorite profession combos are, and the answer I've heard most frequently is N/Me.
If you stick with Ranger, here's a post-searing PvE build:

Send your pet out in the field and let it die, then make wells out of the body.
Your front line will have a constant regen of health at least.

N/R is a great MM for anywhere but Factions. Only reason it isn't goodin Factions is because of the time based missions. N/R can maintain minions much better, but its slower. Here is a build I use a lot with my N/R.
[skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill][skill]Animate Vampiric Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Healing Spring[/skill][skill]Winnowing[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
For the last spot, it can vary based on what you like to do, but skills I'd consider are:
[skill]Deathly Swarm[/skill][skill]Death Nova[/skill][skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill][skill]Verata's Sacrifice[/skill][skill]Rotting Flesh[/skill]
